Support Upcoming Short Film Set During The Harlem Renaissance

Slugline:

New York University Film and Television Students looking for a residence to shoot a 8 to 10 minute period-drama short film set during the Harlem Renaissance.

A Conversation Over Midnight Coffee, set for public release in mid-2027, is a short historical drama investigating how the goals, status quo, & tastes of the Harlem Renaissance could complicate the private relationships of young black literary artists.

Set to shoot over the weekend of November 14th and 15th, writer-director Isabel Lafrance-Melendez and producer Nichelle Shiggs, are seeking individuals who are interested in supporting the production by providing a filming location.

About The Film

A 1920s black artistic couple in the heart of Harlem erupt into a private heated argument after the woman is offered a proposition that could change the course of her career. Taking place in the couple’s private residence, their argument reveals the complicated layers on how they feel about each other, the ways they navigate their careers, and the dramatic change taking place between them.

The film was born from an interest in bringing grounded attention to the obstacles and questions black artists, especially black female artists, of the era had to face. It aims to shed light on the struggles they had to face to gain respect and recognition, sparking reflection on how those same themes present today, and provide a new way of looking at New York City history never seen before on screen.

Our Ask

The production team is searching for individuals interested in supporting the project by providing a filming location that matches the film's private and intimate storyline. Set in the couple’s Harlem apartment, they’re looking for a home with vintage features, such as warm wood motifs, gas stoves, etc.

If this sounds like an opportunity of interest, you can reach out at [email protected] to connect with the filmmakers directly.
