New York Farms Bring Farm-Fresh Food to the Neighborhood

This past spring, the citywide farmers market organization GrowNYC made the decision to close its Farm stands across the city -- leaving East Harlem without any farmers markets north of 104th Street.

To fill this gap, local nonprofit Uptown Grand Central is partnering with two New York farms to bring farm-fresh food to the neighborhood.

If you like the idea of having a farmers’ market close to home, make sure to show your support!

 125TH STREET:
El Mimomex Farm
Wednesdays from Noon-7 p.m.
125th Street Community Plaza (125th Street & Park Avenue)

LA MARQUETA:
Angel Family Farm
Thursdays from 4-6 p.m.
La Marqueta (115th Street & Park Avenue)

At both locations, you can shop either “pick-what-you-want” OR by pre-ordering a pre-packed Farmstand bag. Now that we're in late summer, the stands are stocked with items including sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, plums, zucchini, cucumbers, kale, callaloo, carrots and more.

Farmstand bags are $20, or $10 for anyone with SNAP/EBT. Sign up for the mailing list and/or a Farmstand bag here: https://bit.ly/4gZdSZx

ABOUT THE FARMS:

Mimomex Farm
Martin and Gaudencia Rodriguez and their five children have farmed Mimomex Farm in Goshen, New York, for the past 20 years. Located on 16 green acres in the Black Dirt region in Orange County, the farm is rich with fertile soil leftover from an ancient glacier lake tucked away in the beautiful Northeast Appalachian valleys and forest. Mimomex's vegetables are sustainably grown, with minimally invasive herbicides used at the beginning of the growing season, and all crops weeded by hand. The farm grows a wide variety of crops, with special expertise in Mexican herbs and produce. For fruit, they will source some items from nearby partner farms. Born in an agricultural region of Mexico, Martin is a graduate of the New Farmer Development Program.

Angel Family Farm
Angel Family Farm is a 17-acre, sustainable family-owned farm located in Goshen, New York. Founded in 2006 by Ana and Crisostomo Angel, it specializes in seasonal vegetables including Mexican varieties, herbs and microgreens. The farm provides fresh, organically-grown produce to New York City and New Jersey via Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs and farmers' markets.

 Two Brothers Farm
Eggs are sourced through a fellow farm partner called Two Brothers Farm.
