Faith Ringgold Retrospective

The New Museum (on The Bowery) has a fantastic retrospective of Faith Ringgold.

The work on view spans from polemical, political to ethereal and whimsical but is linked by a fascination with history, Black voices, and figurative representation.

Ringgold was born in Harlem and raised here. Her work as an educator and interest in many manifestations of the arts features repeatedly in her painting. Whatever her medium, the racial and gender divisions in American society are omnipresent.

This powerful show also highlights Ringgold’s lifetime work to redress museums’ underrepresentation of artists and audiences of color.
